Blogger BackUp

How do I create a backup of my entire blog?

Blogger does not have an export or download function. However, you can use the following instructions to create a single file with all your posts which you may publish and then copy to your own computer for use as desired. Note: If you intend to continue using your blog, please save a copy of your existing template in a file on your computer as you will need to have it at hand after this process is completed.

  1. Log into your Blogger account, then switch into template-editing mode.
  2. Make a copy of your current template; you will be replacing your Blogger template with the single page template in Step 3, but you probably don't want to lose your original template.
  3. Replace your Blogger template with the following (note: you must remove the indentation from the following lines when pasting into your Blogger template):

    AUTHOR: <$BlogItemAuthor$>
    DATE: <$BlogItemDateTime$>
    -----
    BODY:
    <$BlogItemBody$>
    --------
Optional: If you are using our commenting system, you can choose to export comments along with the posts. If you want to do this, add the following code to your template, just above the tag:

    COMMENT-AUTHOR:<$BlogCommentAuthor$>
    COMMENT-DATE:<$BlogCommentDateTime$>
    COMMENT-BODY:<$BlogCommentBody$>
    --------

  4. In Settings | Publishing change your Blog Filename to a different filename; this will prevent you from overwriting your main index file. Make a note of your current Blog Filename so you can restore the setting after finishing. [Note: This only applies to users publishing via FTP. Free BlogSpot users will need to overwrite their existing blog page, but it will be replaced as soon as the blog is republished with the original template.]
  5. In Settings | Formatting, set your blog to display all of your posts on the main index page. There is no explicit setting for this; instead, you should change the number of days displayed on your front page (Show N days' posts on main page) higher than the number of days that you have been blogging.
  6. In Settings | Formatting set Date/Time Format to the format MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS AM|PM. (Note: the format will not look like this in the menu; instead it will be the current time, formatted.) Make a note of your current setting so you can restore it after finishing.
  7. Also in Settings | Formatting set Convert Line Breaks to No.
  8. In Settings | Archiving, set Archive Frequency to No Archive. This will prevent your archives from being overwritten with the new template.
  9. Republish your blog; you will end up with a single file with all of your posts, formatted using the above template, at the location specified in your Settings. Open this file in your web browser and save the file to your local hard drive.
  10. Restore the previous settings (Blog filename, archive frequency, timestamp, etc.) in your blog and replace the temporary template with your saved copy. Publish the blog and view the page to check that everything is correct.

How to dump Windows' piracy 'spyware'

Click here to find out more! Microsoft targets Windows pirates with pop-ups

Man, I couldn't believe it was Microsoft who finally got my system infested with spyware! An unkillable process? Popup windows? A prompt you have to click at logon? My GOD!!! But it's ok. You CAN get rid of it:

There are 2 parts to this spyware popup: WGAtray.exe and wgalogon.dll. Killing the WGAtray.exe process causes it to reappear in 1 second. With it present, WGAlogon cannot be deleted. And you can't delete it while it's running. Seem impossible? Nah.

First, you need to have an Explorer window open and pointing to the C:\windows\system32 folder, where the spyware resides (interestingly, doing a hard drive search for "wgatray" turns up nothing- clever spyware, this is!). And you have to have Task Manager open, right beside the Explorer window. This is tricky, and must be done fast- you kill the process in Task Manager, and before the spyware can reopen itself, you must delete WGAtray.exe in the Explorer window. You only have a split second, but it is possible. Once the spyware .exe is gone, you must reboot your computer.

Yes, now you will see the spyware's nag screen. No problem, it's the last time. When you DO finally get to the desktop, do a search "for WGAlogon.dll" You will find 2 copies, one in system32 and one in the dllcache folder. Without the WGAtray spyware to protect them (did you notice it was gone? YAY!), you can rename and then delete both these spyware .dll's. Your system may hang when you reboot it the first time, but when it is brought back up, THE SPYWARE IS ALL GONE.

Whew. Man, I may have to stop using Windows Update. It installs spyware!

I'm afraid of these malware writers coming after me for defeating their product, so I can't provide my real email. But feel free to share this malware removal process with the world.

-Kevin

Microsoft piracy pop-up is persistent

From the Knowledge Base website:

"How to uninstall Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications You can use Add or Remove Programs to view Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications, but you cannot use Add or Remove Programs to remove the notifications."

So... an unwanted programme that can not be uninstalled normally? Isn't this considered Spyware? From Microsoft?

My head as just exploded.

Microsoft targets Windows pirates with pop-ups

The annoying pop-up (WgaTray.exe) can easily be removed in following steps:

1. run > regedit, search and delete all references to WgaTray.exe

2. start in safemode and remove the infection by deleting the file WgaTray.exe in c:\Windows\System32, placed there by the second greediest Corporatin in the World (Intel honlds the enviable no1 spot). (B. Gates III is best known for spying on his customers.)

3. restart your computer and enjoy your fredom, dear rebel

> 4. start using linux or mac

By the way, does anyone really know what spyware MS included with its' inferior "products" ?

Destroy Internet Explorer campaign gets tooled up

Is it just me or does this make no sense at all?

1. It has nothing to do with the elimination of adware and spyware. Most people use IE, so most ad/spyware targets IE. If everybody suddenly switches to firefox, they'll target firefox.

2. Microsoft is not a bad corporation. Google is not a benign corporation. There are no good corporations and bad corporations, there are just corporations and other corporations, all engaged in the admirable quest for money and more money. How did anybody get the idea that Google (or, god forbid, Apple) looks out for the consumer? The mind boggles.

Thanks.

"The initiative extends to Office, which gets its own Genuine Advantage programme (OGA) that, said the Vole, will operate almost identically to Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA)."

Excellent !

That should mean its by-passed within 24 hours too :)

Subject: Oblivion

As a devout follower I also highly anticipated Oblivion. From the start it was a great game, nice graphics, nice sound, easy questing, etc etc. Why do I write you guys this email then? Well, it was all nice for a total of 7 days! In 7 days I mastered every guild, had the best items and had nothing left to fight for or to discover.

Compare this with Morrowind, where high level creatures scared the crap out of me sometimes, where you almost got lost on the road, where I failed to even finish the game in 2 months of playing.

Is fun for just 7 days an improvement? I do not think so.

Destroy Internet Explorer campaign gets tooled up

This is a disturbing piece of news.

I mean at the end of the day if firefox is truely the better browser, it will just come on top regardless, as it is currently happening.

But, if people, organisations are ganging up to discriminate other software or company, this is just another form of monopoly scheme, and it shouldn't be encouraged.

I think campaigns should be used and targeted more sensibility and more for a justified course !

Google is paying to destroy now? regardless of the ethic aspect of their action, this is still quiet surprisingly, evil. From a company that has gained its populatrity through quality of service, they've just proven themself to be yet another coorperate schemes.

So ye, to summarize, Fck google, fck firefox make up your own mind kiddies.

Microsoft targets Windows pirates with pop-ups

Hello Paul:

Things like this make me wonder if I haven't woken up in an alternate reality Universe of the Terribly Silly. If Microsoft had been releasing new versions of Windows all this while instead of endless security updates......

But I'll just numberize my gripes:

1. If they want to do this, fine, but what about if they oplaster people running copies of Windows that are actually legitimate with pop-ups? (Show your purchase receipt, serial number, a photograph of your computer, and five signed statements attesting to your good character.) And are they going to extend it to people running older version of Windows? (You should upgrade now, you're costing us money by not upgrading. Click here to....)

2. Office "Genuine Advantage" won't affect me since I've been running Open Office for almost three years. I don't like the look-n-feel as much, but you can't complain on the price.

3. The only reason I keep using Windows is the driver support and it's pretty easy to sort it's problems out. Otherwise I'd leave in a heartbeat. Hear that Linux zealots? I don't need to be berated about how smart people use Linux, just make it so mere mortals can update drivers and software. That's all I ask.

Sincerely,

Scott Peterson

Microsoft targets Windows pirates with pop-ups

Fair enough, i guess that everyone who complains about this does not have a (legal) leg to stand on. No matter how harshly Micro$oft seem to be behaving. But this is also the reason why i don't have automatic updates turned on :-D Give it a week or 2, someone will crack it.

You don't think M$ could go the way of the RIAA? I suppose it would be quite easy for them to find out who is running valid installs and who isn't, once they've got that list, get an IP address or something. Then they complain and threaten the user's ISP who will hand over details and bang! Instant lawsuits...

'Honest gov, i was just evaluating'

Subject: Oblivion

I agree that Oblivion is stunning. The graphics are fantastic, sound is excelent and the gameplay is almost as good as Morrowind. But i strongly believe that it's predecessor was better.Lets see about the modders.

One problem. They charge ou for minor goodies to download at their site.Look at it and write something about it.

Microsoft piracy pop-up is persistent

I think the easiest way to get around this is not to download the automatic update.

When I heard it was being delivered this way, I told automatic updates to notify me only and updates and not to automatically install them. Lo and behold, a "Windows Genuine Advantage" update tipped up this morning. Uncheck the checkbox, tell it I don't want to be notified about it again, and Bob's your uncle.

Of course, by now it's probably far too late for all the poor saps who didn't do this.

Using BOOT.INI Startup Switches (Windows NT/2000/XP)

Windows NT, 2000 and XP use a configuration file called BOOT.INI to control how the operating system is booted and any startup options. By modifying the startup switches you can manage the boot process including booting Windows in Safe mode, creating a log file, or disabling the splash screen.

Open you the root partition of your hard drive (normally C:\) and find the file called "BOOT.INI". You may need to enable hidden files under Folder > Options.

Right-click on the file, select Properties and uncheck "Read-only" then click OK. You may like to make a backup of the file at this point to allow you to restore if you experience problems.

Open the file in Notepad and under the [operating systems] section you will find a list of all the installed operating systems. For example:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect

To enable or disable startup options simply change or add any of the switches listed below to the default command-line. For example you could add "/SOS" to the command-line above to display the splash screen and view the drivers being loaded.

/3GB - New to Service Pack 3. This causes the split between user and system portions of the Windows NT map to become 3GB for user applications, 1GB for System. To take advantage of this the system must be part of the NT Enterprise suite and the application must be flagged as a 3GB aware application.

/BASEVIDEO - The computer starts up using the standard VGA video driver. Use this if you have installed a graphics driver that is not working.

/BAUDRATE - Specifies the baud rate to be used for debugging. If you do not set the baud rate, the default baud rate is 9600 if a modem is attached, and 19200 for a null-modem cable.

/BOOTLOG - Makes 2000 write a log of the boot to the file %SystemRoot%\NTBTLOG.TXT Windows 2000/XP Only.

/BURNMEMORY=x - Makes NT forget about the given amount of memory in MB. If /burnmemory=64 was given then 64MB of memory would be unavailable.

/CRASHDEBUG - The debugger is loaded when you start Windows NT, but remains inactive unless a Kernel error occurs. This mode is useful if you are experiencing random, unpredictable Kernel errors.

/DEBUG - The debugger is loaded when you start Windows NT, and can be activated at any time by a host debugger connected to the computer. This is the mode to use when you are debugging problems that are regularly reproducible.

/DEBUGPORT=comx - Specifies the com port to use for debugging, where x is the communications port that you want to use.

/FASTDETECT - Specifying FASTDETECT causes NTDETECT to skip parallel and serial device enumeration for a boot into Win2K, whereas omitting the switch has NTDETECT perform enumeration for a boot into NT 4.0. Win2K setup automatically recognizes dual-boot configurations and sets this switch for BOOT.INI lines that specify a Win2K boot. Windows 2000/XP Only.

/HAL= - Allows you to override the HAL used, for example using a checked version.

/INTAFFINITY - Sets the multiprocessor HAL (HALMPS.DLL) to set interrupt affinities such that only the highest numbered processor in an SMP will receive interrupts. Without the switch the HAL defaults to its normal behavior of letting all processors receive interrupts. Windows 2000/XP Only.

/KERNEL= - Same as above but for the kernel.

/MAXMEM:n - Specifies the maximum amount of RAM that Windows NT can use. This switch is useful if you suspect a memory chip is bad.

/NODEBUG - No debugging information is being used.

/NOGUIBOOT - When this option is specified the VGA video driver responsible for presenting bit mapped graphics during Win2K's boot process is not initialized. The driver is used to display boot progress information, as well as to print the Blue Screen crash screen, so disabling it will disable Win2K's ability to do those things as well. Windows 2000/XP only.

/NOSERIALMICE=[COMx | COMx,y,z...] - Disables serial mouse detection of the specified COM port(s). Use this switch if you have a component other than a mouse attached to a serial port during the startup sequence. If you use /NOSERIALMICE without specifying a COM port, serial mouse detection is disabled on all COM ports.

/NUMPROC=n - Only enables the first n processors on a multiple processor system.

/ONECPU - Only use the first CPU in a multiple processor system.

/PCILOCK - Stops Windows NT from dynamically assigning IO/IRQ resources to PCI devices and leaves the devices configured by the BIOS.

/SAFEBOOT - This is an automatic switch which NTLDR should complete for you when you use the F8 menu to perform a safe boot. Following the colon in the option you must specify one of three additional switches: MINIMAL, NETWORK, or DSREPAIR. The MINIMAL and NETWORK flags correspond to safe boot with no network and safe boot with network support. The safe boot is a boot where Windows 2000/XP only loads drivers and services that are specified by name or group in the Minimal or Network Registry keys under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot. The DSREPAIR (Directory Services Repair) switch causes NT to boot into a mode where it restores the Active Directory from a backup medium you present. An additional option that you can append is "(ALTERNATESHELL)". This tells NT to use the program specified by HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\SafeBoot\AlternateSh ell as the graphical shell, rather than to use the default which is Explorer. Windows 2000/XP only.

/SOS - Displays the driver names while they are being loaded. Use this switch if Windows NT won’t start up and you think a driver is missing. This option is configured by default on the [VGA] option on the boot menu.

/WIN95 - This switch is only pertinent on a triple-boot system that has DOS, Win9x and Windows NT installed. Specifying the /WIN95 switch directs NTLDR to boot the Win9x boot sector stored in BOOTSECT.W40. See Microsoft KB Article Q157992 for more information.

/WIN95DOS - This switch is only pertinent on a triple-boot system that has DOS, Win9x and Windows NT installed. Specifying the /WIN95DOS switch directs NTLDR to boot the DOS boot sector stored in BOOTSECT.DOS. See Microsoft KB Article Q157992 for more information.

/YEAR= - Specifying this value causes NT/Windows 2000 core time function to ignore the year that the computer's real-time clock reports and instead use the one indicated. Thus, the year used in the switch affects every piece of software on the system, including the NT kernel. Example: /YEAR=2005. Note: this option is only available on NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 and Windows 2000/XP.

Save the file and restart Windows for the change to take effect.
